Who doesn't love a Big Ten Home Opener Series Sweep?! I know I do.
After spending weekend after weekend on the road, to be able to play at home in front of our family, friends, and Northwestern community felt incredible. Even with the cold temperatures and occasional snow flurries, you all showed up loud and happy to be there. That energy is something we are thankful for and feed off of every time!
Friday's game was a downright exciting softball matchup–with the bats heating up and each player doing whatever they could to put their team ahead. What I loved about our performance throughout the entirety of this past weekend was no matter how many runs we gave up in an inning, we responded immediately in the next half-inning by either tying it up or going ahead. That was enormous because it allowed us to never let the momentum lean the other way for too long and eventually we were able to keep the momentum on our side for good. Walking away from that series with the sweep over Minnesota was an important part of our story and it was the statement we wanted to make in week one of Big Ten play.
Following the weekend, we had a midweek game versus DePaul where I learned what it truly meant to play smack dab in the middle of Chicago. I mean there is nothing more Chicago than having the bullpen next to the public street and the purple line train directly behind the bleachers (where most people who were waiting for the train were locked into the game). From the moment we stepped on the field it was clear how much we wanted to play softball that day and we did just that having an explosive offensive performance. The success came from not trying to do anything more than get bases in the beginning and pass the bat, because when that happens then you are able to truly cash in. And cashing in is exactly what we did. 20 runs in five innings…I have some pretty amazing teammates let me tell you. Since we are on the topic of Chicago, I must inform you that we did celebrate the victory at none other than The Weiner's Circle where we all got our Chicago Dogs, the perfect after-game meal!
When you win 8 in a row, there's only one way to celebrate. Cheers to northwestern softball pic.twitter.com/jNKhleTkNr

Now all the focus is now on our trip to Iowa. No matter what success we enjoyed this week, every game is new and every team in the Big Ten is going to be prepared to battle.
See you soon Cats,
