EVANSTON, Ill. — No. 3 Northwestern (6-1) readies for a pair of highly anticipated top-25 matchups this week against No. 17 Michigan (6-3) at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday, and the reigning NCAA Champions, No. 1 North Carolina (6-0), at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Both games will take place in Ryan Fieldhouse, where the Wildcats are 5-0 this season.

10 Things to Know

  1. Sunday's game is a rematch of the 2022 NCAA Tournament semi-finals in Baltimore, where Northwestern fell to UNC 15-14. The 'Cats led by seven goals entering the fourth quarter but could not hold on to their lead.
  2. Northwestern trails the all-time series against North Carolina 11-13. The only non-conference opponent Northwestern has faced more often in program history is Notre Dame (27 games).
  3. The 'Cats are kicking off Big Ten play against Michigan, who has never beaten Northwestern in 12 all-time meetings. NU knocked the Wolverines out of the NCAA Tournament last season with a 15-13 victory in the second round.
  4. The Wildcats downed No. 4 Stony Brook 13-8 in Ryan Fieldhouse this past weekend for their second top-five victory this season. Molly Laliberty made 12 saves while Izzy Scane tallied eight goals for the 'Cats.
  5.  The 'Cats improved to 6-1 on the season with the statement win against No. 4 Stony Brook and are riding a six-game win streak.
  6. Northwestern ranks second in the nation in scoring offense (18.57 goals per game).
  7. NU is the only team in the country with two top-five wins this season.
  8. Izzy Scane's 5.00 goals per game is tied with Kenna Kaut of Bryant for the Division-I lead. With her fourth goal against Stony Brook, Scane passed Lauren Gilbert ('22) for fourth most career-goals in program history. She is 16 goals away from tying Kristen Kjellman's ('07) career total of 250 for third place.
  9. First-year Madison Taylor is second on the team with 17 goals and 25 draw controls. She has won Big Ten Freshman of the Week four times this season.
  10. Graduate transfer Hailey Rhatigan tied for the team lead with three assists against Stony Brook. Rhatigan, Mercer University's all-time leading scorer with 204 goals, has tallied nine goals and four assists in three games this season.
Big Ten Conference play begins next week for the Wildcats, as they welcome Michigan to Ryan Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday, March 16. The game will air on BTN.
