'Cats Travel to Carolinas for Weekend Road Trip

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern heads to the Carolinas as it seeks its first win of the Jim Foster era. The Wildcats will square-off against Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, N.C. on Friday, before heading to South Carolina for matchups against Presbyterian on Saturday and USC Upstate on Sunday. Sunday's game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
 
Last weekend, the 'Cats dropped three games at Texas State, despite averaging six runs a game and totaling a .375 on-base percentage as a team. Stephen Hrustich led the Northwestern offense with a .400 batting average (4-for-10) and 1.271 OPS. Hrustich tallied four walks, a double and a triple on the weekend, while only striking out twice.
 
Elon transfer Griffin Arnone launched the first home run of the 'Cats season in the seventh inning of Saturday's contest. The Connecticut native reached base in four of his seven plate appearances on the weekend.
 
32 of the 35 players on the Northwestern roster made an appearance in last weekend's series.
 
The 'Cats are 1-1 all-time against USC Upstate, with both games coming in the COVID-shortened 2020 season. The Spartans are off to a 5-0 start to the season and are coming off a 35-win campaign in 2022.
 
Northwestern has never faced Gardner-Webb or Presbyterian. Presbyterian is 2-2 on the season, with wins over Georgetown and West Carolina in the opening weekend., while Gardner-Webb is 1-4.
