Northwestern Drops Weekend Opener 6-2 to Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, NC -- Northwestern got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, but the Wildcats fell to the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs 6-2 Friday.
Michael Farinelli (0-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Northwestern (0-4). Ethan Sund was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out four.
In the batter's box, the Wildcats were paced by junior Tony Livermore, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double, a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats were trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Senior Stephen Hrustich came across to score the lone run of the inning for Northwestern and get them on the board.
The Runnin' Bulldogs then scored two runs to retake their advantage heading into the seventh inning, when the Wildcats responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. Griffin Arnone came across to score for Northwestern, which tightened the Runnin' Bulldogs' lead to 3-2. The Wildcats were unable to get any closer, however, and Gardner-Webb added three runs to their tally on the way to a 6-2 final.
