Livermore Collects Three Hits in Loss to Texas State

2/19/2023 4:12:00 PM | Baseball

SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Junior Tony Livermore totaled three hits, but the Northwestern Wildcats fell 24-9 on Sunday as the Texas State Bobcats completed the sweep in San Marcos.

Sophomore Grant Comstock (0-1) got the ball to start for Northwestern (0-3) and took the loss after two innings of work.

Livermore's three-hit day led the Wildcats offensively. Senior Stephen Hrustich furnished a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, two walks and two RBI. Junior Vincent Bianchina also chipped in for Northwestern, putting together two hits, including a triple, in five trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 5-0, the Wildcats first put runs on the board in the third inning. They scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run triple from Hrustich and an RBI single from Kevin Ferrer.

The Bobcats used the long ball to expand their lead to 19-3 by the seventh inning before the Wildcats offense got back to work. Sophomore Andrew Pinkston came across to score the lone run of the inning for Northwestern, which brought the score to 19-4 in favor of the Bobcats.

Texas State kept adding on in the late innings, expanding their lead to 24-4 by the ninth. The Wildcats bats heated up in the final inning to push five runs across, including one on a double off the bat of Trent Liolios, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. The ballgame ended with a final score of 24-9.
