Wildcats Finish Sixth At B1G Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Northwestern women's swimming and diving had representation in every championship final on the last day of the Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, as the team finished sixth in the standings with 710 points.

The Wildcat women got off to a positive start in the final session with a seventh-place finish from Lola Mull in the 1650-yard freestyle in a time of 16:14.35.

Justine Murdock went one better in the 200-yard backstroke, grabbing sixth in a season-best time of 1:54.99.

After becoming the fifth-fastest 100-yard freestyler in school history this morning (48.70), Ashley Strouse followed up that performance with an eighth-place swim in finals in a time of 48.81, her second top-eight finish of the meet.

Hannah Brunzell was another Wildcat with multiple top-eight finishes in Ann Arbor, touching seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke with a season-best swim of 2:10.11.

Fifth-year senior Miriam Guevara had the highest placing of the day, grabbing fourth in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:55.82.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Lindsay Ervin, Ashley Strouse, Audrey Yu and Ally Larson capped the swimming portion of the meet with a fifth-place finish in 3:15.57, the sixth-fastest relay performance in Northwestern history.

In the platform diving event, Markie Hopkins hit her second NCAA Zone qualifying standard of the meet to finish sixth with a score of 276.40.

Next for the Wildcats is the NCAA Zone Diving meet in Bloomington, Indiana, from Mar. 9 to 11. Swimming returns to action at the NCAA Women's Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota from Mar. 15 to 18.
