Wildcats Fourth After Day 1 of B1G Women’s Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Sophomore Ashley Strouse broke an almost 15-year-old team record as the Northwestern Women's Swimming and Diving team sits tied for fourth with 102 points after the first day of the Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.
 
Leading off the Wildcats' 800-yard freestyle relay, Strouse swam a time of 1:44.64 to overtake Andrea Hupman '08 as the fastest 200-yard freestyler in Northwestern history.
 
The team of Strouse, Jamie Brennan, Hana Shimizu-Bowers, and Ally Larson finished fifth in 7:04.80, the second-fastest performance in school history.
 
The Wildcats also had a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as Justine Murdock, Hannah Brunzell, Miriam Guevara, and Audrey Yu recorded the eighth-fastest performance in school history with a time of 1:36.96.
 
Northwestern Women's Swimming and Diving continues action in Ann Arbor tomorrow with preliminaries and finals of the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle, and 1-meter diving, in addition to timed finals for the 400-yard medley relay.
