EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern knocked off No. 1 Purdue at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Sunday to secure its first win against an AP No. 1 team in program history in 20 tries.

The Wildcats (18-7, 9-5) were led by 26 points (9-of-20 FG, 7-of-9 FT) from Boo Buie, while Chase Audige added 15 points and two steals.

Chicago's Big Ten Team once again dominated on the defensive end, holding Purdue to just 58 points, tied for the Boilermakers's lowest scoring output this season. Northwestern forced 16 Purdue turnovers while committing just nine themselves, turning those takeaways into 22 points on the other end of the floor. The 'Cats tallied 11 steals, led by three from Ty Berry and Boo Buie, with Chase Audige adding two steals.

How It Happened

After falling behind 26-16, Northwestern went on a 5-0 run with 8:55 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Nick Martinelli, to narrow its deficit to 26-21. Purdue answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Wildcats down 37-30 entering halftime.

The Wildcats trailed by eight with under four minutes remaining before exploding to close the game on a 17-3 run. Chase Audige led the late charge, scoring 10 points in the final 3:33 of the game to seal the game for the 'Cats. Audige hit two massive threes before Berry and Buie buried the Boilermakers from the free-throw line. The 'Cats held Purdue to 21 points in the second half, their lowest output in a half this season.
