Northwestern Begins Road Swing Wednesday At No. 1 Nebraska

‘Cats play first of four straight matches away from home
EVANSTON, Ill. (November 7, 2023) – Northwestern (11-13, 5-9 B1G) begins a four-match road swing on Wednesday evening when it heads west to Lincoln, Neb. for a showdown with No. 1 Nebraska. First serve from inside the Devaney Center is set for 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Julia Sangiacomo pounded out 16 kills, leading a trio of Wildcats in double figures, as Northwestern fell by a 3-1 final to Minnesota on Sunday afternoon inside Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Leilani Dodson (13 kills) and Averie Hernandez (11 kills) also cracked the 10-kill mark, while Kennedy Hill put up a team-best six blocks. Alexa Rousseau added 47 assists, her top total for a four-set match in 2023.
SCOUTING NEBRASKA
Nebraska, which currently sits atop the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)/Taraflex Coaches Poll, stands alone as the nation's lone remaining unbeaten with a perfect 23-0 record (14-0 B1G).
Merritt Beason (3.88 k/s) and Harper Murray (3.30 k/s) spearhead a vaunted attack for three-time Big Ten Coach of the Year John Cook. Bergen Reilly hands out a league-best 10.65 assists per set, while Bekka Allick (4th; 1.29 b/s) and Andi Jackson (14th; 1.10 b/s) rank in the top 15 in the Big Ten in blocks. Lexi Rodriguez has been a rock defensively, averaging 3.56 digs per set.
SERIES STUFF
Nebraska owns a 19-1 (.950) lead in 20 previous matchups with Northwestern. The Huskers have won all nine matchups between the two teams inside the Devaney Center.
When Northwestern and Nebraska met earlier this season on October 18 at Welsh-Ryan Arena, Hernandez paced the 'Cats with 11 kills and Dodson chipped in five blocks as Nebraska picked up a 3-0 victory over Northwestern.
