
Northwestern Falls to Florida State in Ball Dawgs Classic Opener

HENDERSON, Nev. -- Hailey Weaver collected her first career double-double and Casey Harter set career highs in both points and rebounds, but the Northwestern women's basketball team fell to the Florida State Seminoles 90-52 at Dollar Loan Center on Wednesday in the opener of the Ball Dawgs Classic.
Weaver and Harter's fantastic rebounding performances led the Wildcats (3-2) in the contest, as they collected 13 and seven respectively. Weaver tacked on 12 points and Harter added seven points. Paige Mott also helped out with eight points, two steals and two blocks.
Northwestern forced 14 Florida State turnovers and turned the takeaways into 16 points on the offensive end of the floor. Melannie Daley led the way individually with two steals.
How It Happened
Northwestern struggled out of the gate, falling behind 23-8 at the end of the first quarter.
Florida State kept adding to that lead, building a 32-14 advantage before Northwestern went on a 9-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Mott, to narrow its deficit to single digits at 32-23. Florida State responded, however, leaving the Wildcats trailing 41-27 heading into halftime.
Northwestern's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Wildcats faced a 63-44 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Northwestern's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled seven of the team's 17 third-quarter points.
Northwestern could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 90-52.
