LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Northwestern women's basketball is headed to Las Vegas for the week as they prepare for the Ball Dawgs Classic Tournament at the Dollar Loan Center. The Cats' will take on No. 13 Florida State (4-0) at 1:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday and then will face either No. 4 Stanford or Belmont on Friday.
Northwestern enters tournament play with a 3-1 record after defeating SEMO on Sunday at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Junior Caileigh Walsh had a career game, setting career highs for both points and rebounds with 27 and 14 respectively. It was her second double-double of the season and the sixth by a Wildcat in 2023-24, nearly matching their total from all of last season (7).
In addition to Walsh, Caroline Lau continued to impress as well. She dealt out ten assists on Sunday - the third double-digit assist game of her season - and now has an NCAA-best 42 on the season so far. Her 10.5 assists-per-game average is second in the nation and first in the Big Ten.
Rounding out Northwestern's starting five, both Hailey Weaver and Melannie Daley scored in double-digits for the fourth time this season, while Paige Mott hauled down 10 rebounds. All five of the 'Cats starters are averaging nine or more points per game.
That lineup will take on Florida State for the first time in program history on Wednesday, trying for their first ranked win since February of 2022. If Northwestern is victorious, they will go on to face the winner of Stanford/Belmont on Friday at 8:30 p.m. CT. The consolation game will begin 45 minutes after the conclusion of the championship game.
All games in the Ball Dawgs Classic will be broadcast on FloHoops and radio broadcast of Northwestern's games will be available on WNUR Sports.
