Wildcats score victories over No. 14 Stanford, Cleveland State
COLUMBUS, Ohio (November 21, 2023) – Led by strong showings from its foil and sabre teams, No. 5 Northwestern fencing picked up a pair of victories at the Elite Invitational in Columbus, Ohio this past Sunday.
In the Wildcats' opening matchup against No. 7 Penn, the foil squad notched a 6-3 victory, while the sabre team posted a 5-4 win as part of a narrow 14-13 setback to the Quakers. After seeing its foilists notch a sparkling 9-0 mark versus No. 1 Princeton, the sabre team paced the attack against No. 14 Stanford, picking up a 6-3 triumph en route to leading the 'Cats to a 14-13 victory.
After dropping a 15-12 decision to No. 9 Duke, Northwestern wrapped up its stay inside French Field House with a 19-8 win over Cleveland State, a showing highlighted by wins from the foil, 9-0, and sabre, 7-2, squads.

After taking a week off for Thanksgiving, Northwestern will turn its attention towards USA Fencing's December North American Cup (NAC) event, December 1-3, in Richmond, Va.
