Buie Selected to NABC Player of the Year Watch List

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches announced that Northwestern graduate guard Boo Buie has been selected to the preseason watch list for the 2024 NABC Division I Player of the Year award. The 2024 NABC Division I Player of the Year - selected by a nationwide vote of Division I head coaches - will be announced the week of the 2024 Men's Final Four.

Buie returns to Northwestern after earning All-Big Ten First Team honors and helping secure the Wildcats' second ever bid to the NCAA Tournament during his senior campaign. The Albany, New York, native posted averages of 17.3 points, 4.5 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals during the 2022-23 season, all of which were career highs.

Buie finished the year with 31 double-digit scoring efforts, and his scoring average of 17.3 points ranked sixth in the Big Ten. During Northwestern's five-game winning streak in February which all but assured the team's NCAA Tournament selection, Buie averaged 20.4 points, 4.8 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game, highlighted by a performance for the ages against No. 1 Purdue. In the Wildcats' upset bid over the top-ranked Boilermakers, he posted 26 points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks, becoming the first Big Ten player in over a decade to post 25+ points, 3+ blocks, 3+ steals and 3+ assists in a conference game.

His 588 points scored last season is the third-highest single-season mark in school history, while his 154 dimes tied for the fourth-most in program history. Buie's 1,541 career points put him 10th on the program's all-time scoring list, trailing all-time leading scorer John Shurna by 497 points. 

Led by Buie, Northwestern returns four of its top six scorers ahead of the 2023-24 campaign. The 'Cats tip-off the season against Binghamton on at 7 p.m. CT on Monday, Nov. 6 inside Welsh-Ryan Arena.
