Oishi, Damratoski Earn Top-Eight Finishes At November NAC

Both members of duo earn spots on podium at USA Fencing event
FORT WORTH, Texas (November 14, 2023) – Megumi Oishi and Anna Damratoski both earned podium finishes as Northwestern fencing sent a contingent to USA Fencing's November North American Cup event this past weekend in Fort Worth, Texas.
Competing in the junior women's sabre, Oishi rolled through pool action, compiling a spotless 6-0 record. After receiving an opening-round bye in the tableau, the Portland, Ore. native racked up five victories, including three consecutive 15-14 triumphs to punch her ticket to the semifinals. Alex Chen also posted a top-15 finish for the 'Cats in the event, scoring three wins in the tableau on her way to placing 14th overall.
Damratoski excelled in the junior women's epee, rolling to a 5-1 pool record ahead of the tableau. The Peapack, N.J. product scored three wins in knockout action, none more impressive than a 15-9 victory over fourth-seeded Felicity Sebastian in the Round of 32, as part of a run to the quarterfinals. Karen Wang joined Damratoski in the top 30 of the event, checking in 26th.
Juliana Hung paced Northwestern in the junior women's foil. Out of San Francisco, Calif., Hung, who finished 15th, enjoyed a perfect 5-0 run through pool play before winning three tableau bouts, highlighted by a 10-9 upset of No. 9 Chin-Yi Kong in the Round of 32.
Northwestern was also represented in the team sections of the sabre and epee. The sabre squad of Chen, Oishi, Adele Bois, and Amy Lu took fourth, while the quartet of Damratoski, Wang, Christina Liu, and Kaylin Nguyen checked in 10th in the epee.
