SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Northwestern women's basketball hits the road for the first time this season on Wednesday, taking on the No. 16 Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Purcell Pavilion. Action from South Bend begins at 6:00 p.m. CT and will be televised on ACC Network.
The Wildcats are 2-0 to open their year after beating both UIC and Omaha at home last week. They've received standout performances from all parts of their lineup so far, with all five starters reaching double figures in both of the 'Cats' matchups. Melannie Daley paced the offense with a career-high 25 points on Thursday and followed up with 21 more on Sunday.
Caroline Lau and Paige Mott have also made strong debuts, as both have recorded double-doubles in both of their first two games. Mott scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds on Thursday while Caroline Lau scored 11 and dealt out 12 assists. Lau enters Wednesday's game first in the nation in assists per game, at 13.5, and Mott is tied for first in rebounding average, at 16.5
Northwestern will put their unblemished record to the test against a 1-1 ranked Notre Dame squad. The teams will match up for the seventh time ever with the Irish leading the all-time series four games to two. The 'Cats are 1-2 in South Bend, but haven't visited in nearly 40 years. They'll hope to take home their first ranked victory since February 22, 2022, when they beat No. 4 Michigan in overtime.
After Wednesday's game, the Wildcats will return home to continue their non-conference schedule against Southeast Missouri State on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
