Northwestern Drops Road Opener to Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Northwestern women's basketball team fell 110-52 to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on the road Wednesday.

The Wildcats (2-1) had two players score in double figures, led by Melannie Daley, who had 11 points and four steals. Hailey Weaver tacked on 11 points and two blocks and Mercy Ademusayo added eight points and two blocks.

Jasmine McWilliams pulled down three offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Northwestern, grabbing 12 boards and turning them into eight second chance points.

Northwestern did a good job disrupting Notre Dame shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Ademusayo's two rejections led the way individually for the Wildcats.

How It Happened

Northwestern started out the scoring by going on an 8-0 run, culminating in a bucket from Weaver, to take an early lead with 7:51 left in the first quarter. Notre Dame quickly fought back, however, and the 'Cats entered the second quarter down 24-16.

The Wildcats continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 56-26 halftime deficit.

Notre Dame continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 79-42 advantage during the third quarter. Northwestern knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 16 total points.

Northwestern could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 110-52. Northwestern's bench got work in during the final period, with non-starters providing all of the offense in the frame.
