'Cats Claim Third Straight Win with 63-59 Victory over Western Michigan

EVANSTON, Ill. – Boo Buie scored 21 points and Brooks Barnhizer added a career-high 20 points as Northwestern grinded out a 63-59 win over Western Michigan at home on Tuesday. The Wildcats improve to 3-0 for the third consecutive season and the fifth time overall under Head Coach Chris Collins.

The Northwestern defense forced 17 Western Michigan (0-3) turnovers while committing seven. Those takeaways turned into 13 points on the other end of the floor. Barnhizer's three steals led the way individually for the Wildcats.
How It Happened
After falling behind 16-12, Northwestern used an 8-0 run with 9:31 left in the first half to take a 20-16 lead. The Wildcats continued to tack onto the lead to enter halftime with a 35-28 advantage. The 'Cats held an 18-8 first half edge on points in the paint.
With the game tied at 54, Northwestern went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Buie's jumper, to seize a 59-54 lead with 2:56 to go in the contest. The 'Cats were able to hold on for the 63-59 win. The game marked the second time this season that Northwestern has held its opponent under 65 points. The 'Cats were 20-2 last season when holding their opponent to 65 points or fewer.
