Women's Basketball to Host Exhibition Against Lewis

Evanston, Ill. - Before their 2023-24 campaign kicks off next week, Northwestern women's basketball will preview their upcoming season with an exhibition against the Lewis Flyers on Thursday. The game tips off at 7 p.m. at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

The Wildcats look to make an impact in a talented Big Ten Conference this season, led by three returning starters in Jasmine McWilliams, Caileigh Walsh and Paige Mott. Walsh led all Wildcats last season with 12.1 points per game and her 4.7 rebounds per game were second on the team and first among returners. Mott made big strides last season as well, averaging 12.2 points and 5.1 rebounds over her final 13 games.

Sophomore Caroline Lau will step into the starting point guard position after averaging 5.7 points per game and 2.9 rebounds off the bench last year. One of three captains, Lau's 78 assists during her first season were the most by a Wildcat first year since Veronica Burton.

Joe McKeown will also welcome four newcomers in first years Crystal Wang, Casey Harter and Rachel Mutombo and graduate transfer Maggie Pina. Pina contributed 9.4 points per game on 44.1 percent shooting during her senior campaign at Boston University and completed her tenure with the Terriers with 186 made threes - good for third in program history.

After their exhibition, the 'Cats will kick off the regular season next Thursday at home against UIC. That game is set to tip-off at 7 p.m. at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
