‘Cats Surge To Runner-Up Finish In Fall Season Finale At Cal Poly Invitational

Svärd, Adam finish as part of a tie for sixth place
CARAMEL, Calif. (November 1, 2023) – The Northwestern University men's golf team played its final 36 holes at 22-under-par as the Wildcats closed their fall season with a runner-up finish at the Cal Poly Invitational in Carmel, Calif. earlier in the week.
Bolstered by its scorching play over the final two rounds, Northwestern closed the 54-hole event at The Preserve Golf Club with a 16-under-par 848 (294-279-275) to finish alongside UCLA (282-280-286=848) in second place. California (290-277-276=843) rallied to win the team title, while the Golden Bears' Kuangyu Chen totaled a 10-under-par 206 (75-66-65) to secure individual medalist honors.
The 'Cats were led on the individual leaderboard by the pairing of Daniel Svärd and Cameron Adam, who closed play as part of a tie for sixth place after both carded seven-under-par 209s. Svärd (74-69-66) fired a pair of rounds in the 60s, highlighted by a red-hot final-round showing in which he totaled six birdies and played bogey-free golf en route to a six-under-par 66. Adam (71-70-68) carded all three of his rounds at under-par. Like Svärd, Adam turned in his top 18-hole effort during the event's final round, racking up eight birdies on his way to a four-under-par 68.
Ethan Tseng joined Svärd and Adam in the top 15, earning a share of 15th place with a four-under-par 212 (72-68-72) that included a four-under-par 68 during second-round play. James Imai handed in a final-round three-under-par 69 to ascend into a tie for 46th at 219 (78-72-69), while Archie Finnie shot a 228 (77-75-76), tying for 73rd. Niall Shiels-Donegan, who competed as an individual for Northwestern, landed 75th with a 229 (74-76-79).
