Wildcats Set to Host Southern Illinois and Miami at Norris Aquatics Center

EVANSTON, Ill. โ After a pair of dual meets last season, Northwestern swimming and diving returns home to Norris Aquatics Center on Saturday, October 21 at 11 a.m. CT. The Wildcat men will host Southern Illinois, while the Wildcat women will host Southern Illinois and Miami.ย
The Wildcats opened the season last week at Cincinnati, splitting a dual meet with the Bearcats. The Wildcat men claimed a 169-93, while the women fell 163-99. First-years Cade Duncan and Diego Nosack both shone in their Wildcat debuts, with Duncan securing wins in the 50 Free (20.39 seconds) and 100 Free (44.61ย seconds), and Nosack claiming wins in the 200 Fly (1:48.92) and 500 Free (4:31.20). Cal transfer Ayla Spitz claimed wins in the 100 Back (55.00 seconds), 200 Back (2:00.01), and 200 IM (2:04.73)ย in her first meet as a Wildcat.
On Saturday, the 'Cats traveled to Oxford, Ohio, where they swept the Miami RedHawks, picking up a 204-96 win in the men's meetย and a 161.5-137.5 victory in the women's meet. David Gerchik led the way on the men's side with a pair of event wins,ย pacing the fieldย in the 100 Back (48.25 seconds) and 200 Back (1:45.67).ย On the women's side, Maggie Papanicholasย earned wins in theย 100 Breast (1:01.12) and 200 Breast (2:15.56).
Southern Illinois enters Saturday's meet with a 2-0 record on the women's side and 0-2 record on the men's side. The Saluki women defeated McKendree 217-81 and Missouri State 214-139, while the Saluki men fell to McKendree 160.5-137.5 and Missouri State 209.5-140.5.
Miami defeated FIU in a dual meet 167.5-107.5 in a dual meet earlier this season before competing at the SMU Classic. Last season, the Wildcats defeated Miami in a tri-meet 146-95.
Following Saturday's meet, the Wildcats will set their sights on the Purdue Invitational, heading to West Lafayette from November 16-18 for the prestigious event.
