Wildcats Host No. 4 Penn State in Sunday Showdown

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern will play host to No. 4 Penn State on Sunday at 4 p.m. CT at Martin Stadium on Big Ten Network.

Last time out, Northwestern snapped a five-game winless streak with a 2-1 win over Iowa in Iowa City. NU struck first in the 18th minute when Emma Phillips skied to meet Josie Aulicino's free kick and head it home. After Iowa equalized to tie the match before halftime, Ella Hase scored the game-winner in the 63rd minute to give the 'Cats a 2-1 win.

The Wildcats rank fourth in the Big Ten and 38th nationally in scoring offense, averaging 2.20 goals per game.

The 'Cats have outshot opponents in 10 of 15 games this season. Northwestern has tallied 15+ shots seven times this season and 20+ shots 20+ three times.

Through 15 games, 10 different Wildcats have tallied a goal, matching the total number of goalscorers through all 23 games last season.

Meg Boade ranks first in the Big Ten and second nationally with 12 assists. With an assist on Ella Hase's game-winning goal at Iowa, Boade now holds sole possession of Northwestern's single-season assists record.

Emma Phillips leads all Wildcats with 1,251 out of 1,260 possible minutes played.

Ella Hase's eight goals lead all Wildcats and ranks fourth in the Big Ten. Four of Hase's goals have stood up as game-winners, second-most in the Big Ten.

Josie Aulicino's 28 career assists ranks second in school history, trailing only Kristen Palmer (31).

Sunday's matchup will mark the 34th all-time meeting between Northwestern and Penn State on the pitch. The Nittany Lions hold a 28-5-0 advantage all-time. Last season, PSU defeated the 'Cats 2-0 in the Big Ten Tournament Semifinal.

Penn State enters Sunday's matchup unbeaten, having played to a scoreless draw at Purdue last time out. The Nittany Lions are let by Payton Linnehan's five goals and three assists. Katherine Asman has started all 14 games for PSU, posting a .896 save percentage and allowing just 0.39 goals per game.

Northwestern will continue Big Ten play with its regular season home finale against Minnesota on Thursday, October 19 at 7 p.m. CT on B1G+.
