Unbeaten 'Cats Down Cal Poly, Miller Records 1,000th Career Dig

SEATTLE - The Northwestern volleyball team stormed back after dropping the first set to win its seventh match in a row, securing a 3-1 win (16-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-20) over the Cal Poly Mustangs Thursday at Alaska Airlines Arena. Libero Megan Miller eclipsed 1,000 career digs and turned in a team-high 15 digs against the Mustangs (0-4). The fifth year, who played two seasons at Nebraska before transferring to Northwestern, is one of just five active Big Ten student-athletes to reach the mark.

The Wildcats (7-0). were led by a double-double from Hanna Lesiak, who registered 10 kills and 10 digs on the day. Kathryn Randorf and Temi Thomas-Ailara each added 12 kills to help the attack. Defensively, the 'Cats posted 10 blocks, their second-highest single-match total of the year and were led by Leilani Dodson (5) and Desiree Becker (5). Setter Alexa Rousseau made contributions all over the floor, tallying 35 assists, five kills and eight digs.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Wildcats found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-16. Northwestern trailed by as many as 11 points as Cal Poly never gave up the lead in a set that was tied up just once before the Mustangs took control.

SET 2 | Northwestern rallied from a first-set loss to take set two 25-21, tying the match at 1-1. The Wildcats survived a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured two lead changes and was tied 10 times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way. The Wildcats racked up 17 kills over the course of the set.

SET 3 | Northwestern built on that second-set success with a victory in set number three to open up a lead at two sets to one. The Wildcats won the set 25-20 helped by a strong performance on the attacking side. Northwestern registered a .308 attack percentage with 12 kills in the set win. The Wildcats opened up a 16-9 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there. The Northwestern offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

SET 4 | Northwestern earned a match win with a 25-20 fourth-set victory, winning their third straight set. The Wildcats took the lead for good at 11-10 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Wildcats took over the lead. Northwestern got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Cal Poly attacks in the stanza.
