EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's soccer team continues the 2022 season with its second week of competition as it hosts Loyola Chicago at 7 p.m. CT on Friday, Sept. 2, and travels to Villanova at Noon CT on Monday, Sept. 5. Friday's contest against the Ramblers can be viewed on B1G+, while Monday's action is available on the BIG EAST Digital Network.

The Wildcats (0-1-1) were shutout at FGCU 1-0 in their last match on Monday, August 28. Transfer goalkeeper Christian Garner logged a career-high eight saves as the Eagles rattled off 23 total shots. NU tied Chicago State, 3-3, in the season-opener last Thursday with Justin Weiss, Brandon Clagette and Danh Tran finding the back of the net. Tran scored the equalizer in the 85th minute off an assist from Weiss. Both Weiss and Tran are tied for the team-lead with three points apiece.

Second year head coach Russell Payne earned his first win at Northwestern last season with a 1-0 triumph over the Ramblers in Rogers Park. Eric Smits scored the winner in the 71st minute on a deft header off a cross from senior midfielder Bardia Kimiavi. Northwestern holds a 17-5-3 all-time record against the Ramblers, and have won three of the last four meetings. Loyola Chicago is 2-0-0 this season, claiming home victories over Bucknell (4-1) and No. 25 Bowling Green (1-0). Billy Hency leads the team with two goals. Playing in its first year in the Atlantic 10 Conference, Loyola Chicago was tabbed to finish fifth out of 14 teams in the coaches' poll.

Villanova and Northwestern will meet for the second time after the Wildcats earned a 2-0 win last season in Evanston. Villanova is 0-1-1 this season, falling to Stanford (1-0) and tying Cal (1-1). Akinjide Awujo scored the lone goal against the Cardinal. The BIG EAST Coaches' Poll tabbed VU to finish sixth in the 11 team league.

Northwestern men's soccer returns home for a two-match homestand as it welcomes Western Michigan to Martin Stadium at 7 p.m. CT on Friday, Sept. 9, and Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. CT on Monday, Sept. 12.
