EVANSTON, Ill. – Rachel Lewis is one of 13 collegiate players drafted to Athletes Unlimited Softball, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Athletes Unlimited is a player-driven professional sports organization with basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, and softball leagues that feature some of the best athletes in their respective sports.
Lewis has cemented herself as one of the best players in college softball and Northwestern program history with a dominant final season in Evanston. The Liberty Township, Ohio native leads the Big Ten with 20 home runs, an .880 slugging percentage, and a 1.380 OPS, while posting a .368 batting average and 20 stolen bases. This season, Lewis became Northwestern's all-time home run leader with 62 career long balls and is three home runs shy of tying Garland Cooper's single season record of 23 home runs in 2007.
Lewis's dominance against Big Ten opponents has vaulted Northwestern to the top of the conference with an 18-2 B1G record and 38-7 overall tally. 12 of Lewis's 20 home runs have come against conference opponents, where she is batting .414 and slugging 1.069 for a remarkable 1.613 OPS, best in the conference.
Athletes Unlimited Softball follows a unique, player-centric system. Instead of teams competing to accumulate wins, the league's individual players compete to move up the player ranking leaderboards. Players can earn points if their team wins a game or individual innings, as well as for individual feats such as hits, home runs, innings pitched, and game MVP. At the end of the season, the player at the top of the leaderboards is that season's champion.
The league follows an intense five-week schedule. At the start of each week, four new teams are drafted by player captains: the top four players on the leaderboard that week. This way, each week features new teams and new matchups.
Athletes Unlimited is mission-driven and founded on the values of innovation, inclusion and excellence. It aims to empower athletes as leaders, promote inclusive ownership focused on long-term financial and personal well-being of athletes, and bring fans closer to the game by innovating on and off the field.
