EVANSTON, Ill. – Graduate students Lauren Gilbert and Jill Girardi have been named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-American First Team and graduate student Ally Palermo to the All-America Third Team, the organization announced Thursday afternoon.
Gilbert grabbed first team recognition for the second straight season, and this year places sixth nationally with 74 goals and ninth registering 100 points. The Oswego, Ore. product was named to the All-Big Ten First Team and Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week three times. Additionally, she earned IWCLA National Player of the Week after scoring a career-high eight goals against Rutgers. Gilbert's 220 career goals is fourth in program history.
Girardi earned her first career All-American nod and averages 9.8 draw controls per game, the nation's second-highest mark. She saved her best collegiate season for her last, compiling career marks by logging 49 goals, 10 assists, 59 points and 177 draw controls. Girardi is four draws away from tying the single-season program record set by Brennan Dwyer in 2019. Against Rutgers, the graduate student registered 19 draw controls, the second-highest single-game mark in program history and the highest by a Big Ten student-athlete this season. Girardi was named Big Ten Midfielder of the Week on four occasions this year.
For the second straight season, Palermo garnered second-team recognition. She leads the team recording 37 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers. The Seaford, N.Y. native was named All-Big Ten for the third team in her career.
In total 48 student-athletes are represented on the All-American teams, with 19 different institutions represented.
