EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern Sullivan-Ubben men's basketball head coach Chris Collins has announced the signing of Class of 2022 high school prospect Nick Martinelli.
"We are really excited to add Nick Martinelli to our Northwestern Basketball Family," said Collins. "Nick is a perfect fit for us and is a flat out winner, who had an incredible career at nearby Glenbrook South High School. He's gotten better every year and has great upside. Nick is a versatile player with size that can play multiple positions on the court, and he will immediately bring a high level of competitiveness and toughness to our team."
Martinelli is a local product that scored 1,331 career points at Glenbrook South in Glenview, Ill. The 6-foot-7, 200 pound wing averaged 22.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game as a senior, and led the Titans to a 33-3 record. Martinelli was a first-team Class 4A all-state selection by both the Associated Press and Illinois Basketball Coaches Association. According to 247Sports, he is the No. 7 ranked player in the state of Illinois, and a three-star prospect. Averaging 21.8 points and 5.9 rebounds as a junior, Martinelli earned all-state and all-league accolades.
Nick's older brothers both played college basketball. Dom played his freshman season (2020-21) at Northwestern as a preferred walk-on before transferring to St. Thomas. His eldest brother Jimmy, was a four-year starter at NYU from 2016-20.
