‘Cats Secure Convincing Midweek Win

Evanston, IL - Northwestern took care of business today beating Milwaukee 8-0 behind some clutch hits and dominant pitching.
The bats came to play in this midweek matchup as every starter reached base with at least a hit or a walk. The 'Cats offense also benefited from a pair of long balls on the day.
Designated hitter Ruben Fontes cranked out a three-run home run in the second inning to kick off the scoring. Catcher Stephen Hrustich followed that up with a two-run blast to deep center field in the sixth inning, capping the scoring at 8-0. This was Hrustich's sixth home run in his last 10 games, giving him 9 on the year.
First baseman Anthony Calarco and second baseman Patrick Herrera were also key contributors in this game, as both players had two doubles in their first two at-bats. Right fielder Jay Beshears and shortstop Tony Livermore also collected two hits on the day.
The Wildcats' bottom three hitters in the lineup had a huge day as they collectively had six hits, four RBIs, and two runs scored.
Northwestern pitching had another dominant game by only allowing four hits in the shutout. Sophomore David Utagawa started the game and tossed four scoreless innings. Relief pitching held Milwaukee right there as Mike Doherty, Kellen Pate, Jack Sauser, Reed Smith, and Coby Moe each pitched an inning to secure the shutout.
Northwestern will take on Maryland this weekend for a three-game road series. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 PM CT on Friday in College Park.
