Evanston, IL - Northwestern Baseball returns to Rocky & Berenice Miller Park on Friday afternoon to begin a three-game set against Michigan State. The Wildcats will begin the weekend series at 3:30pm on Friday afternoon, before a pair of 2pm starts against the Spartans on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
Currently sixth in the Big Ten, Northwestern will look to rebound after dropping their first conference series of the season to Illinois. The 'Cats began Big Ten play by taking a pair of series from Indiana and Penn State, winning both games against the Nittany Lions in walk-off fashion.
Jay Beshears has powered the Northwestern offense all season and the Naples, FL native crushed his first grand slam of the season on Friday in Champaign. Beshears is hitting .355 to lead all Northwestern hitters on the season, with a .620 slugging percentage that is also best on the Wildcats.
On the mound, Northwestern will once again rely on a pair of newcomers in Sean Sullivan and Michael Farinelli. Sullivan (4-0) enters the weekend with the seventh-best ERA in the Big Ten and is one of just four pitchers in the conference to make at least nine starts without losing a game. Farinelli (3-4) has been a workhorse for Northwestern all season and leads the Wildcats in innings pitched.
