EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern began Saturday with a 14-2 win over the Spartans in a productive outing for the offense, as the 'Cats put up 10 hits.
Junior first baseman Stephen Hrustich started the game off with a three-run homer to left field, which put the 'Cats up 3-0 in the first inning. First-year catcher Bennett Markinson followed up with a grand slam in the fourth inning, giving NU an early 9-0 advantage.
The runs continued to pour in as sophomore centerfielder Ethan O'Donnell hit a two-RBI double in the fifth and gave the Wildcats a 13-0 lead, before a Spartans' error brought in the game's final run. Sophomore outfielder Jay Beshears also racked in two RBIs for the 'Cats on a single.
