EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 10 Northwestern is off to Champaign for a midweek doubleheader at Illinois beginning at 12 p.m. CT Wednesday.
The Wildcats (30-6 overall, 11-1 conference) are looking to extend their six-game win streak after completing successful sweeps of Ohio State and Purdue.
Last Friday, Rachel Lewis crushed two homers to become the Northwestern program leader in career home runs. She added two more on Saturday to put her career total at 60 and make her just the fourth player in Big Ten history to tally 60 homer runs. On Monday, she was named the Big Ten Player of the Week for the third time this season and on Tuesday she was named the National Player of the Week by D1Softball.
Lewis is tied for first place in the Big Ten with 18 home runs this season. She is third in RBIs with 41.
Maeve Nelson was the star of the show on Sunday, driving in a career-high eight RBIs. She went three for three at bat and put up two homers of her own, one of which was a grand slam.
Illinois (26-13 overall, 9-2 conference) is currently on a 10-game win streak. Northwestern holds the edge in the series with a 32-15 record all-time.
