"Actions Speak Volumes" - By Sydney Supple

What a weekend it was: three games, three run rules. 34 runs scored over the course of 12 innings, and a new Home Run Queen was crowned in Evanston. A pretty Happy Easter you could say. All I know is that I am honored to play alongside these women.
Rachel Lewis' name will be permanently written in the history books of our program as the all-time home run record holder. A home run record that was previously held by the great Tammy Williams, whose legacy continues to impact our program to this day. Rachel tied the record (57) on Friday, broke the record with her next at-bat (58), and decided she wasn't done there, hitting two more on Saturday, and is now at 60 home runs and climbing.
Everyone will remember Rachel for the towering home runs and the rooftop bombs, but I want to share why we as players will remember her as being one of the best to ever wear the uniform. There are leaders who use their voice to inspire others, but with Rachel, it is her actions that speak volumes. Those actions can motivate an entire room and change the mindset of a team. She is someone who shows up every day in the aspect of getting after it physically but also as a genuine teammate. We all know Rachel Lewis can throw around some serious weight and has the insane mental strength to will her body to do just about anything, but there is also the beauty of how she truly cares and invests in conversations with every player on our team. Both who she is as a player and a person should be remembered by all when they look back and see her name in the record books.
On Sunday, after Rachel's stellar performance, she was intentionally walked all three of her next at-bats. When that happens to a player, it is up to the rest of the team to show up for her...and that is exactly what happened throughout the lineup. Maeve Nelson had herself a DAY hitting 8 RBI's, tying the most for a Northwestern single-game record, and driving Rachel in to capitalize on each one of her walks. This weekend was filled with so many joyous moments and celebrations for our team. To all the younger teams that came out and the fans, we loved being able to have you there to celebrate with us as well.
While all eyes are now focused on the big week we have coming up on the road heading to Illinois and Indiana, it is important to take the time to reflect on the special moments that were captured on the J this past weekend.
Sincerely,
Sydney #26
