Second Half Surge Powers No. 3 Northwestern to Senior Day Win

EVANSTON, Ill. - No. 3 Northwestern utilized an eight-goal third quarter to defeat No. 25 Johns Hopkins, 19-12, on Senior Day and earn its ninth straight win on Senior Day at Martin Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
 
Eight Wildcats (13-2, 5-0 B1G) got on the scoresheet, with Lauren Gilbert's six goals leading the team. Jill Girardi tallied 15 draw controls, three goals and an assist, and Erin Coykendall also added three goals. Leah Holmes also contributed three assists and a goal.
 
The 'Cats took a 7-6 lead into the half after Lauren Gilbert put Northwestern back in front with under one second remaining in the second period.
 
Northwestern used a dominant third quarter to take control of the game, outscoring the Blue Jays 8-2 in the period. After Johns Hopkins (8-7, 0-4 B1G) tied the game at 8 early in the third period, the Wildcats scored seven unanswered goals to pull away. 
 
Senior Greta Stahl scored her first goal of the season in the fourth quarter.
 
NU won its 18th consecutive Big Ten game, extending its program record, and won its 17th home game in a row, the third-longest active streak in the nation.
 
The Wildcats close out the regular season next Saturday, April 23 at 10:30 a.m. CT in College Park against Maryland.
