INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northwestern enters the postseason on Thursday against Minnesota in day two of the Big Ten Tournament. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. CT on Big Ten Network and WNUR Sports from Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The 'Cats earned the seven seed after an 8-8 campaign in conference play. The Wildcats' NCAA Tournament hopes are very much in the balance this week in Indianapolis, likely needing two wins to merit consideration for the field of 68.

Senior guard Veronica Burton enjoyed a historic start to the week, claiming her third straight Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Award and her second consecutive first team All-Big Ten selection, with a unanimous nod from the coaches.

Burton becomes just the second player in Big Ten history to win the Defensive Player of the Year award three times after Penn State's Tanisha Wright, now the Atlanta Dream head coach, did so from 2003-05. Burton is third in Big Ten history in career steals with 388.

Burton joins an elite group of Wildcats in program history with two first team selections: Anucha Browne, Michele Savage, Amy Jaeschke, Nia Coffey and Lindsey Pulliam

Senior forward Courtney Shaw earned an All-Big Ten honorable mention for her strong senior season, averaging the third most rebounds in the conference and the fourth-most offensive rebounds nationally.

The 'Cats are looking to at least replicate their run from last year in Indy, where they defeated Illinois on Thursday before knocking off No. 13 Michigan on Friday. The 'Cats have made the semifinals in the event twice under McKeown ('16, '21).

NU will look to avenge its earlier loss against Minnesota this season, a 74-68 win for the Gophers, who shot 52% from deep at the Barn. Burton posted 27 points, seven assists, four rebounds, four steals and four blocks in Minneapolis.
