Wildcats Host Badgers and Gophers To Start Big Ten Slate

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern hosts Wisconsin on Saturday and Minnesota on Sunday to start Big Ten play.
Both contests are set to begin at noon. The Wildcats are set to play at Combe Tennis Center, but will play outside at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center if the weather permits. As of Friday, the forecast for the weekend indicates showers on Saturday but clear skies with temperatures in the 50s on Sunday. The team will update the schedule and website as well as share news @NUWildcatTennis on Twitter for more information.

Northwestern enters the weekend with a 5-4 record overall and a No. 39 ranking in the latest ITA poll on Mar. 16. Wisconsin is 9-5 with a No. 51 ranking while Minnesota is No. 42 with an 12-3 record.
The Wildcats were last in action two weeks ago with a road trip at Kansas State and Kansas. The 'Cats split the two, knocking off the Wildcats and narrowly falling to the Jayhawks, who are now ranked No. 34 in the latest poll.
Christina Hand won on both days, and Clarissa Hand picked up a ranked win against Kansas State, defeating No. 96 Karine-Marion Job.
Wisconsin's best win of the season came against No. 36 SMU. They hosted the ITA National Indoor Championships and played some of the top teams in the country in Oklahoma, USC and Old Dominion. Xinyu Cai is ranked No. 111 in the country and has been playing at No. 2 singles. The doubles duo of Cai and Alina Mukhortova is ranked No. 43.
Minnesota's best win came against No. 48 Memphis and they also recorded wins over FCGU aand Florida Atlantic, who are in the top 75.
Last season, Northwestern knocked off the Badgers twice, winning 6-1 in Evanston an 4-3 in Madison. The 'Cats and Badgers competed against each other in the January Wildcat invite, with Sydney Pratt and Clarissa Hand claiming singles wins over Ava Markham.
The 'Cats went 3-0 against the Gophers last season, winning 6-1 in Evanston, 4-3 in Minneapolis and 4-0 in Madison at the Big Ten Tournament.
