EVANSTON, Ill. — The Northwestern football program has planned a series of internal and external initiatives in celebration of Black History Month that aim to educate, empower and impact. Included in the initiatives is the recognition of alumni that exhibit Black excellence in their professional achievements and personal accomplishments.
"The celebration of Black History Month presents a unique opportunity for our program to acknowledge the prominent and robust work being done by our talented Black alumni," said Director of Player Engagement Demetrius Fields. "We are fortunate to have extremely talented, driven and influential alumni that have dedicated themselves to addressing needs in the Black community and we feel that it is important to shine a spotlight on their work and highlight their Black excellence."
"When we begin our recruiting process, we look for individuals that are going to excel in the classroom, in competition and most importantly in the community," said Dan and Susan Jones Family Head Football Coach Pat Fitzgerald. "As we celebrate Black History Month, it's important to our Football Family to recognize these individuals, not only because they deserve the attention for their incredible efforts within the Black community, but also as a way to educate former, current and future members of our University community."
A former Northwestern football student-athlete will be featured each Monday on the program's social media channels during the month of February. The goal is to acknowledge the contributions of forever Wildcats to the advancement of the Black community.
Featured Alumni:
- David Nwabuisi: Founder & CEO, TRiBL Inc. (Feb. 7)
- Torri Stuckey: Head of North American Rail, bp & Author/Publisher, Cover Three Publishing
- Chasda Martin: Chief Strategy Officer, North Lawndale Employment Network
Daryl Newel, SVP at PNC Bank
