LINCOLN, Neb. – Northwestern stumbled on the road and fell to Nebraska 73-59.
Once again, Veronica Burton led the Wildcat offense serving up 16 points on 100% shooting from the charity stripe while picking up four steals. Laya Hartman followed with 12 points on a 2 of 3 clip from deep.
Nebraska got off to a quick start and stayed just ahead of the Wildcats to start the first quarter. Burton managed to tie things up at 14-all with a step-back three, taking some momentum into the next frame.
Hartman hit two threes to start the second quarter and the 'Cats managed to severely limit the Husker offense to just 4 of 15 from the floor. Hartman hit two more jumpers to end the quarter and Northwestern went into the halftime break down 30-27.
The Cornhuskers started the second half with a hot hand and started to run away with the game in tow. Burton stemmed the bleeding with a three and success at the charity stripe but Nebraska took a commanding lead going into the final quarter.
Northwestern managed to outscore the Huskers in the final quarter 18 to 15, but it was too little, too late.
The 'Cats will return to the court for the Big Ten Tournament where they will face Minnesota in Indianapolis on the Big Ten Network.
