'Cats Defeat No. 15 Purdue on Senior Day

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern wrestling continued to dominate the back-half of the Big Ten slate, earning a fifth-straight dual victory on Senior Day against #15 Purdue. This marked the Wildcats' first win against the Boilermakers since February 9, 2018.
Five Wildcats picked up bout wins, with a first-period pin from Ryan Deakin and technical fall from Lucas Davison helping extend the Northwestern winning streak to five, their longest since 2017 when they won six-straight duals.
Frankie Tal-Shahar got the first win for the 'Cats at 141 lbs, earning a 10-4 decision over Parker Filius. He has now won four-straight bouts, including three against conference opponents.
At 149 lbs, Yahya Thomas picked up a 8-3 decision over the Boilermakers' Alec White to tie things up.
At 157 lbs, Ryan Deakin notched a first-period fall over Kendall Coleman. Deakin moves to 5-0 against Coleman in his career.
At 174 lbs, Troy Fisher notched a dramatic win in sudden victory for the 'Cats, grabbing a 3-1 decision over Emil Soenlen.
After Purdue claimed a pair of tight bouts at 184lbs and 197lbs to tie the score at 15, Lucas Davison dominated at 285lbs to win by technical fall in the second period.
Northwestern is back in action on March 5, as the Wildcats head to the Big Ten Championships in Lincoln, Neb.
