EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern plays its fifth road game in February on Sunday at Illinois. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. CT on BTN and WNUR Sports from State Farm Center.
The Wildcats are looking to bounce back from a 69-58 loss at No. 5 Indiana on Thursday at Assembly Hall. The 'Cats led in the third quarter and trailed by two with eight minutes to play but ultimately fell short.
In a relatively balanced and defensive game, the 'Cats were undone by foul trouble, and the Hoosiers made 19 trips to the line compared to just five for Northwestern.
Senior guard Veronica Burton finished with 20 points on 9-17 shooting, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Lauryn Satterwhite and Jillian Brown added 14 points each.
Burton leads the NCAA in steals per game and with her four steals against the Hoosiers moved into a tie for third place all-time in Big Ten history in steals. She has the most steals per game in Big Ten history with 3.37.
The Wildcats have won 13 straight matchups against Illinois and seven consecutive games in Champaign.
The 'Cats swept the Illini in 2021, winning both regular season matchups and a second-round contest in the Big Ten Tournament. In Champaign, Illinois led by 14 in the first quarter before the 'Cats rallied to win 67-61.
In the three games against Illinois, Burton averaged a quadruple nickel with 16.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 5.0 steals.
