Northwestern Falls in Saturday Doubleheader

Birmingham, AL - Northwestern Baseball dropped both legs of a Saturday doubleheader to UAB, falling 4-1 in the afternoon matchup before a 10-4 defeat in the nightcap.

The only NU offense would come off the bat of Anthony Calarco, who drilled his second home run of the series in the third inning to put the Wildcats on the board.
 
In his Northwestern debut, Michael Farinelli pitched four innings in the abbreviated seven-inning content and allowed just a pair of runs. The Middlebury transfer struck out three without walking a batter in an efficient performance out of the bullpen.

The second game of the day would include another Northwestern debutant on the mound, as first-year Sean Sullivan got the start in his first college appearance. The Andover, Massachusets native struck out six in three innings of work and allowed just a single earned run.

For the second time this series, Northwestern took an early lead as Jay Beshears slapped an RBI single to put the Wildcats ahead. 
 
Bennett Markinson and Patrick Herrera would extend the Northwestern lead with a pair of doubles in the second inning, before another Calarco RBI made it a 3-0 game.
  A big sixth inning for UAB would be too much for the 'Cats to overcome on Saturday evening. Northwestern concludes the four-game set against the Blazers at 12pm CT on Sunday afternoon.
