Birmingham, AL - Northwestern fell to UAB 11-5 on Sunday afternoon as the Blazers completed a season-opening sweep of the Wildcats at Jerry D. Young Memorial Field.
Making his first career start for Northwestern, Kellen Pate settled into a groove with a 1-2-3 third inning, but not before UAB jumped out to a 4-0 lead in Birmingham. A Northwestern rally came off the bat of Anthony Calarco, who continued his electric start to the 2022 season with two-run RBI single in the seventh inning. The Wildcats would tack on two more runs off an RBI walk from Andrew Pinkston and an RBI single from Alex Roessner.
Northwestern heads to California for a 4-game series against Santa Clara beginning on Friday night at 8 p.m. CT.
