'Cats Drop Season Opener to UAB

The 'Cats brought a one-run lead into the ninth inning after the Northwestern offense responded throughout a back-and-forth battle at Jerry D. Young Memorial Field. In the second inning, with the Wildcats trailing 3-0, Northwestern tied things up behind RBIs from Evan Minarovic, Luke Tanner and a game-tying balk.
That's when Anthony Calarco stepped up to the plate and drilled a go-ahead three-run home run, as the All-Big Ten first baseman made his first hit of the 2022 season count.

With Northwestern in front, Mike Doherty settled into a groove with a 1-2-3 second inning, stranding a runner at second in the third, and another 1-2-3 inning in the fourth. The senior finished the day after 5.1 innings of work, allowing 5 earned run and striking out a pair of Blazers.
After UAB tied things up in the sixth inning, Ethan O'Donnell stole third and scored on an errant throw to give the 'Cats the lead. Coby Moe allowed pitched three innings in relief, allowing two runs.
