EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern faces its second top-five opponent in a row when it visits No. 5 Indiana on Thursday at Assembly Hall. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. CT on Big Ten Network and WNUR Sports.
The Wildcats are coming off their signature win of the season, a 71-69 double-overtime thriller against then-No. 4 Michigan on Sunday in front of a packed Welsh-Ryan Arena. It was their first top-five win since 2016 against Ohio State.
The Blizzard defense was on full display against the Wolverines, forcing 21 turnovers and holding them to 35% from the field.
The 'Cats enjoyed three career days against the Wolverines from Jillian Brown, Courtney Shaw and Veronica Burton.
Brown posted career-highs of 18 points, 8 rebounds, three steals and two blocks and was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the first Wildcat to earn the honor since Lindsey Pulliam on Feb. 26, 2018.
Shaw tallied a career-high 16 points on 7-9 shooting with nine rebounds while going toe-to-toe with Naz Hillmon.
Burton recorded 13 points, a career-high 13 assists, and two steals, including eight points in the two overtimes and the game-winning free-throws with less than four seconds to play in the second overtime.
Burton leads the country in steals per game and currently owns the best steals per game average (3.37) in Big Ten history.
She also ranks in the top-ten nationally in assists per game, assist-to-turnover ratio, FTA and FTM.
The 'Cats have won three out of their last four against the Hoosiers, including their last two trips to Assembly Hall against ranked Indiana teams in 2020 and 2019.
The 71-69 overtime win against then-No. 15 Indiana in 2020 was one of the most memorable games in recent Wildcat history, and Burton's and-one that tied the game in regulation with 28 seconds left capped off a 13-point fourth-quarter comeback.
