EVANSTON, IL - Northwestern fell to No. 5 Purdue 70-64 after a strong start on Wednesday night, as a 13-point performance from Robbie Beran wasn't enough to power the 'Cats past another ranked opponent.

The Wildcats (12-12, 5-10 B1G) went on a late 7-0 run to cut the lead to seven with a little under a minute left.

Northwestern was excellent at the free throw line, shooting 87.5% (14-16). For the Wildcats, this was the highest percentage in a game with at least 15 attempts since November 27, 2019.

A strong defensive performance from the 'Cats included 14 Purdue (23-4, 12-4 B1G) turnovers and a career-high two blocks and two steals from Julian Roper. Playing his most minutes in a Big Ten game this season, Roper also knocked down a pair of three-pointers to match a career high.

Beran led the team in points for the first time this season and also pulled  down six boards. He knocked down his both attempted threes in the game. Beran led the team in points and rebounds for the third time in his career. Pete Nance (12) and Boo Buie (11) joined Beran in double figures.

Ryan Greer was a steady hand for Northwestern, leading the team with four assists while knocking down both of his threes. Greer has now led the team in assists in three of the last four games. Coming into the season, Greer had led the team in assists in three conference games.

The 'Cats are back in action this weekend, as they travel to the Twin Cities for a Saturday afternoon matchup with Minnesota at 3 p.m. CT on BTN.
