ANN ARBOR, MICH. – Northwestern will open their Big Ten schedule on the road in Ann Arbor on Sunday as they face off with the No. 17 Michigan Wolverines at Crisler Center. Tip off between the two teams is set for 1 p.m. CT.
The Wildcats will kick off their conference slate after going 4-3 in their first month of non-conference action. They boast a 4-1 record at home, but have fallen in both of their road matchups so far.
Though they dropped their last game at Duke, the 'Cats got double-doubles from both Sydney Wood and Paige Mott - the first of each player's career at Northwestern. Mott had a career-high 13 points and tied a career high with ten rebounds. It was the first double-digit scoring performance of her career.
For Wood, the double-double extended a streak of double-digit scoring that has now reached four games. She tied her career high with 19 against both Niagara and Valparaiso before scoring 11 and grabbing ten rebounds at Duke. She's now averaging 11.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, both of which would be career highs over a full season.
Northwestern will face a challenge against an undefeated Michigan team that has gone 8-0 in non-conference play. The 'Cats have the edge in the all-time series, however. They've gone 41-39 against the Wolverines since 1974 and have come out on top of both of the two most recent matchups. The teams last met in Evanston in February when the Wildcats pulled off a 71-69 upset over No. 4 Michigan in double overtime.
Following Sunday's action, the 'Cats will return home and prepare to battle with a pair of local rivals. They'll host DePaul next Saturday at Welsh-Ryan Arena, with tip-off set for 2 p.m., before heading downtown to face off with UIC on Thursday.
