No. 15 Wildcats Head to Virginia for First Dual of the Season

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 15 ranked Northwestern wrestling is set to travel to Charlottesville on Sunday, Nov. 20, for its opening dual of the year against Virginia.
 
The Wildcats check in at No. 15 in the NWCA poll, as well as No. 9 in FloWrestling's Team Tournament rankings, after returning nearly all their starters from last season.
 
At 133 lbs., redshirt junior Chris Cannon slots in at No. 7 ranking in his class according to FloWrestling. Last season, Cannon earned his second-consecutive All-American honors, finished in seventh place at NCAA Championships with a 4-2 record, and placed fifth at the Big Ten Championships.
 
At 149 lbs., Yahya Thomas returns to Northwestern for his sixth season of action. Thomas ranks seventh in the 149 lbs. class after earning the No. 19 seed at NCAA Championships and posting an 8-3 record in regular-season duals.
 
Redshirt junior Trevor Chumbley replaces National Champion Ryan Deakin as the Wildcats' starter in the 157 lbs. division this year. Chumbley is already off to a strong start to the season after going 5-0 and claimingthe 157 lbs. division title at the Michigan St. Open. The St. Charles, Ill. native went 3-2 in duals last season when occasionally filling in for Deakin.
 
Redshirt sophomore David Ferrante returns for the Wildcats in the 165 lbs. division after qualifying for the NCAA Championships the past two seasons. Ferrante finished fifth at the Big Ten championships and earned the No. 32 seed at the NCAA Championships last season.
 
At 174 lbs., redshirt junior Troy Fisher slots in at No. 20 in FloWrestling's rankings for his division. Fisher went 17-10 last season, earned the No. 23 seed at the NCAA Championships and finished in fourth place at the Big Ten Championships.
 
Graduate student Andrew Davison ranks 24th in the 197 lbs. rankings at FloWrestling. In his first season after transferring to Northwestern, Davison earned the No. 28 seed at NCAA Championships and placed ninth at the Big Ten Championships.
 
Lucas Davison returns for the Wildcats after a dominant first season at 285 lbs. Davison slots in at No. 6 in the rankings after earning All-American honors last season for finishing sixth at NCAA Championships with a 4-3 record. Davison was the No. 9 seed at NCAA Championships and finished fifth at the Big Ten Championships.
