Buie Eclipses 1,000 Career Points in Northwestern's 60-52 Victory Over Purdue Fort Wayne

EVANSTON, Ill. - Boo Buie became the 39th Northwestern player in program history to pass 1,000 career points, as the Wildcats downed Purdue Fort Wayne 60-52 at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Friday night as part of an on-campus game of the Cancun Challenge. Northwestern improved to 4-0 as Buie led the Wildcats with 28 points on a career-high seven three pointers, shooting 9-of-18 from the field and 7-of-13 from deep. Buie's 28 points mark the second-highest total of his career.
Buie joins Scottie Lindsey and John Shurna as the only Wildcats to hit seven or more three pointers in a game since 2010.
Chase Audige filled the box score with seven points, six assists, four rebounds, four steals, and three blocks, becoming the first Wildcat with 4+ steals and 3+ blocks in a game since John Shurna did so against Minnesota in 2012. Northwestern's defense held Purdue Fort Wayne (2-2) to only 32.7 percent shooting from the field (18-for-55), including 22.9 percent (8-for-35) from beyond the arc. How It Happened
After jumping out to a 23-22 advantage, Northwestern went on an 8-0 run with 3:38 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Buie, to increase its lead to 31-22. The Wildcats then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 31-24 advantage. Northwestern relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down five shots to account for 15 of its 31 points.
Although Northwestern led the entire second half, Purdue Fort Wayne was able to cut the lead to one with three minutes remaining. The 'Cats scored the final seven points of the game to pull away and secure the win.
