Women's Soccer Cleans Up Big Ten Postseason Honors

EVANSTON, Ill. –– Northwestern celebrated several awards when the Big Ten announced its 2022 Women's Soccer Postseason Honors. Eight Wildcats received All-Big Ten honors, the most in program history, and more than any other school this year.

Caterina Regazzoni captured Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors, becoming the first Wildcat since 1996 to do so. Regazzoni tallying three goals and two assists. The Swiss first-year started seventeen out of eighteen games this season. The last Wildcat to win Freshman of the Year honors was Erica Westrich.

Meg Boade was named First Team All-Big Ten. Boade added six goals and two assists during the 2022 campaign, highlighted by a two-goal outing against Nebraska. Boade is the first Wildcat to earn First Team honors since Marisa Viggiano and Kayla Sharples did so in 2018. 

Aurea del Carmen, Rowan Lapi, Emma Phillips, and Mia Raben were all selected to the Second Team All-Big Ten. del Carmen scored 6 goals and had 5 assists. Lapi added five goals and three assists, including three against Big Ten opponents. Phillips contributed three goals and two assists as a threat on set pieces, while serving as a formidable presence in defense. del Carmen, Lapi, and Phillips each started all 18 games this season. Raben appeared in all eighteen games in goal, posting a .852 save percentage and allowing .64 goals/game. 

Josie Aulicino, Caterina Regazzoni, and Danika Austin were all tabbed Third Team All-Big Ten. Aulicino led the Wildcats in goals (7) and assists (8), while finishing first in the Big Ten in assists (8), third in points (22), sixth in shots on goal (25), and seventh in goals (18). 2022 marks the second consecutive year Aulicino has earned Third Team honors. Regazzoni was the only first-year named to an All-Big Ten team. Austin was tabbed third team after anchoring a strong back line all season long, adding a goal against Illinois. Aulicino and Austin both made 18 starts this season. 

Regazzoni was voted to the Big Ten All-Freshman team, the first Wildcat since Aulicino in 2020 to do so.

Kelsey Kwon was chosen as the Wildcats' Sportsmanship Award Honoree.

The Wildcats begin their postseason when they take on Rutgers in the Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinal at Martin Stadium on Sunday. Kickoff is at Noon CT and will be broadcast on B1G+. Admission is free to all fans.
