EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 4 Northwestern closes its regular season on the road this weekend, traveling to Indiana Friday and Miami (OH) Sunday. The Indiana game is set to start at 2 p.m. CT on BIg Ten plus, and the Miami (OH) game is slated for 11 a.m. CT on YouTube.
STORYLINES
» Northwestern holds the three seed in the Big Ten Tournament with a 4-3 conference record entering the final weekend of the regular season. A win over Indiana would lock the Wildcats into the three seed regardless of the outcomes of other Big Ten games this weekend. Otherwise, Northwestern could still secure third place if Michigan loses to Ohio State, Iowa loses to Michigan State and Rutgers loses to Penn State as the Wildcats hold head-to-head tiebreakers over the Wolverines and Buckeyes. Chicago's Big Ten Team has taken a top-three seed in three of the last four Big Ten Tournaments. Complete Big Ten standings
» The Cardiac Cats earned another heart-stopping overtime victory last weekend, beating No. 6 Michigan 1-0 in double overtime on Lauren Wadas' golden goal with 37 seconds left on the clock in the second overtime period. It marked the Wildcats' fourth overtime win this season, the most in the Big Ten, and their second straight game with a walk-off winner in overtime. Wadas won Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for her clutch strike, the first time she's won the award.
» Goalkeeper Annabel Skubisz secured her fifth shutout of the season in the win over Michigan by holding the nation's ninth best offense scoreless over 80 minutes of game action. Skubisz is now tied for sixth in Northwestern history with 11 career shutouts. She has also moved into 10th place for career saves with 198, having added 65 this year.
» Northwestern ranked fourth in the latest NFHCA poll released Tuesday and held onto No. 3 in RPI through last weekend's games, often a critical factor in seeding for the NCAA Tournament. The top-four seeds in the NCAA Tournament host the first two rounds on their campus sites. The Wildcats have won 10 games over ranked opponents this season, including four wins over top-10 teams. Indiana and Miami (OH) will be just Northwestern's fourth and fifth unranked opponents this season.
» Fifth-year forward Bente Baekers leads the nation in goals, a distinction the Dutch native has held since the first game of the season when she scored a career-high four goals against then-No. 22 Maine. Her 20 goals this year are her most in a season since scoring 28 as a redshirt first-year in 2019. Baekers has scored in 12 of 16 games this season, including six multi-goal performances.
» Friday's matchup with Indiana is the 29th all-time between the programs, a series Northwestern leads 19-9. The Wildcats have won six in a row against the Hoosiers since 2017, including a 6-0 shutout win to close the regular season last year.
» Northwestern joins Indiana for its LGBTQ+ Pride Game as proud allies. The Wildcats held their own Pride Game on September 9 against Liberty and participated in Ohio State's Pride Game two weekends ago.
AT MIAMI (OH) (Sunday, October 30, 11 a.m. CT)
» Sunday's matchup with Miami (OH) is the 19th all-time between the programs, a series Northwestern leads 17-1. The Wildcats have won 10 in a row against the Red Hawks since 2008 and won last year's meeting 6-2 in Evanston.
» Miami (OH) holds a 2-2 record against Big Ten opponents this year with wins over Ohio State and Michigan State and losses to Michigan and Indiana.
