DEKALB, Ill. –– Northwestern Men's Soccer (1-6-4, 0-3-2 B1G) will take a break from Big Ten play to head to DeKalb, where it will take on the Northern Illinois Huskies (4-4-4, 1-2-1 MAC). Wednesday's non-conference matchup takes place at 7 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on NIU All-Access ($).

Last time out, the Wildcats took a point from a hard-fought matchup with No. 8 Maryland. Northwestern opened the scoring in the 61st minute when Christopher Thaggard found a loose ball in front of the net and made no mistake to tally his first career goal and give the 'Cats a 1-0 lead. The Terrapins responded in the 74th minute when Stefan Copetti's head connected on a cross to equalize. Both teams traded chances for the remainder of the contest but neither team was able to find the winner. The match was the second straight draw against a ranked opponent for the Wildcats, after NU earned a point against then-No. 20 Penn State.

'Cat Facts NIU will be the second MAC opponent (Western Michigan) and third in-state rival (Chicago State and Loyola) for Northwestern. Most recently, the Huskies played Western Michigan to a scoreless draw. Taisei Arima leads the Huskies in scoring, tallying three goals and seven points on the season. NIU has played one other Big Ten opponent this season, tying Wisconsin 0-0.

The Huskies lead the all-time series 17-10-3, but the Wildcats have taken the last two meetings and eight of the last eleven. The two sides haven't met since 2014, when the 'Cats triumphed 2-0 in DeKalb.

Northwestern picks up Big Ten play again on Sunday, October 16, when it takes on the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus at 1 p.m. CT on B1G+.
