
Burton Masterclass Propels 'Cats Past No. 22 Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Northwestern earned its first signature win of the season at No. 22 Iowa, 77-69, on Thursday behind a virtuosic performance from superstar Veronica Burton.
The senior guard finished with 25 points, eight steals, six rebounds, six assists and just one turnover. Her eighth steal, a career high, vaulted her into the top ten all-time in career steals in Big Ten history with 329.
The Wildcats improved to 10-3 on the season and are a perfect 2-0 in Big Ten play. They dropped Iowa to 7-4 and 1-1 in conference action. It was the Wildcats third straight win against the Hawkeyes after a season sweep last year.
First-year guard Melannie Daley enjoyed a coming out party with a career-high 22 points on 9-16 shooting to go with six rebounds and three assists.
Senior forward Courtney Shaw added nine points and 11 rebounds while Caileigh Walsh chipped in eight points and two blocks.
The 'Cats overwhelmed the Hakweyes on the glass with a 42-31 rebounding advantage. They also forced 18 turnovers and limited the hosts to just 23% shooting from deep.
Northwestern will continue its hot start to 2022 on Sunday at home at Welsh-Ryan Arena when it hosts Ohio State, receiving the fifth most votes in the latest AP Top 25 poll. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. CT and will be streamed on B1G+.
